BLUE AND GRAY HOOK-IN

The regular meeting of the Blue and Gray hookers was held this past Monday. At their August meeting they voted to have one rug maker a month put on a rug show for them. Most of us have been hooking together for 8 or 9 years and yet we have never seen many of the rugs made by each other. This month Marion Sachs was to start off the show. A rug maker of extraordinary talent and very prolific is our Marion. I have not attempted to get the names of the rug patterns nor have I attempted to photograph the entire rug. I would have needed a step ladded to get an entire picture as Marion does large rugs. I think that I have enough of each rug for you to see the wonderful color plans and the great technique involved. I am going to let the rugs speak for themselves.

I hope you enjoyed this showing of some of Marion's rugs.
There was a very good turnout for this meeting. A few other rugs you may be interested in:

This is a rug that Peg is just beginning. Looks interesting.

This is a sculptured piece being done by Syd. Syd is my student and she has had only 4 lessons plus my sculpting workshop. I think she is doing a great job. She is planning to do the background with wool yarn to see how that works when hooking.

This piece is being hooked by Judith. She started it with Norma Batastini in a workshop held last spring. She has done some interesting lattice work and her sky is beautiful.

Sorry I don't remember whose rug this is but it almost finished and is a real beauty.
I hope that you have enjoyed this rug show. It certainly was a hit with those present and proved that rug hooking is alive and well in the tri-state area.
SIDEBAR-
The rugs have been returned from the Maryland State Fair and I am pleased to report that Barb Twigg got a blue ribbon for her pillow depicting a young boy with dog. Violet Hopkins got a blue ribbon and the people choice award for her rug entitled Shanghi and I got more than my fair share of blue ribbons plus a special judges award.

Thank you so much for sharing. Marion's rugs are exquisite. She must hook with a very fine cut to get such detail. That cat rug is unbelievable!
How about sharing your rugs that were at the Maryland State Fair. I (and am sure others) would love to see them.
Pug hugs :)

Hi Doris,
Thanks so much for taking the pictures of the hook-in and posting them for those of us who didn't get there. Marion certainly did a LOT of beautiful large rugs!
Yes, please show us which rugs you took to the Fair and tell about them.
