TEDDY BEARS -

My daughter Joan came by to spend the late afternoon and evening with me yesterday. Her husband takes a class , in the evenings, on Tuesday's and Thursday's. We use it as an opportunity to get together and go out to dinner. With her work schedule we cannot get together as often as we would like. She is not a rug hooker but her skill is in making Teddy Bears and other stuffed animals. She has asked for my help with dyeing some materials that she would like to use for embellishments on the bears. (More on this in my next blog.)

After talking with her and reading Pamela and Edward's blog I thought it would be fun to share some of my bears with you. (http://www.from/ The House of Edward.blogspot.com) Pamela and Edward believe that everyone should have a Teddy Bear and I agree. These two fellows are Rikes Bears. They have the carved wooden
faces and live in the living room by the
display cabinet.
This young lady is also a Rikes. She sits in a
bent willow childs high chair. The chair is about 75 years
old and was probably hand made by a
loving grandfather.

The bigger of these 3 is also a Rikes. The two small bears
are Boyds. The little
Red Riding Hood is a
special favorite of mine since I have a
soft spot for Red Riding Hood and have a collection
of porcelain Red Riding Hood's.
This bear sits on the poster of my bed. The star
says "When in Doubt, Look Up"
This is my Angel bear that watches over me.
And this bear is the most important
of them all -
He was gifted to me several years ago as I left
the hospital. His elongated body is perfect
for holding against your chest. It was important
not to jar my chest since it was wired together.
On very cold days the wires still cause me some pain. That's
when I hold him to my chest, he eases my pain and
comforts me.
How could you not love that face?
Yes, Pamela and Edward, I agree, everyone should have a Teddy Bear!

Your bears are wonderful. Thank you for sharing them with us! I love the carved faces on the Rikes bears. I've not seen them before. How nice to have a bear that can still comfort you.
Hugs :)

I love your teddies! Especially the one for holding on your chest. What a nice comforting gift for after major surgery.

I can't wait to see one of Joan's bears with the needle felted features. I bet they're lovely!

Doris, your bear collection is beautiful. I love that little angel bear on your bed post with his quote.

I had never seen or heard of a Rikes bear before, until now. A wooden carved face, how interesting.

It's so nice to have a soft bear pillow to hold against your chest to ease your discomfort. In our hospitals they give a small red satin heart pillow to hold against the chest after heart surgery. Take care and think of me the next time you hug your bear pillow. JB

Love your bears. Especially the long huggable one. You never get to old to need to hug a squishy teddy some times!

Hi Doris,
It's hard not to love teddies! The one you hold next to your chest is so cute! My Mom got a big red heart pillow to hold after her heart surgery. Maybe they need to switch to bears!
