A MAGICAL DAY . . . . . . .

I am very late in posting this blog. Hope you will all forgive me. This weather has made a slug of me! Just don't want to do anything. The "magical day" was last Friday. The weather was glorious. Beautiful blue sky with white puffy clouds floating on a slight breeze and no humidity! So unusual for July. It was also the day of the release of the new Harry Potter movie.
Yes, this is my ticket. So glad we ordered them on line. No standing in line at the theater. We went to see this film on Friday afternoon - the 4 o'clock showing. In attendance were my daughter Joan, her son Richard and his wife Sheri, their daughter Danyel and her special friend. Ages 21 to 80 something!

As I sat there watching the previews of coming movies I had the following thoughts:
(1) I would not pay good money to see anything they were touting!
(2) I could not believe how few children were in the seats and how many over 50 were seated. You would think with school out and an afternoon showing that the seats would all be filled with the young.
(3) As I looked at my family all sitting together I suddenly realized that we had four generations ready to watch Harry Potter. I wondered how many other families could say they had four generations watching Harry?
(4) I thought about my father whose name was Harry and remembered an old song that my mother used to sing - "I'm just wild about Harry and Harry's wild about me."

As we came out of the show my thoughts were that the Disney studio did a fantastic job on the special effects in this film. The film did not go as deeply into the story as previous films did but it was wonderful in its own way. It was fun to see Harry, Ron and Hermoine all grown up. I really enjoyed it and am glad that I had the opportunity to go.

And now I guess it's time to grow up!

The other magical thing of the day was my daylilly garden. When I went out to get in the car this is what I saw -

This garden is about 35 or 40 feet long and all of the lillies were in full bloom. It was a sight to behold. This bed is along the edge of the property and faces the street. Several cars just stopped cold in the street to look. It was really beautiful.

Perhaps this will give you an idea of the size.

A little closer look.

This lilly is called Chicago Apache. It is my favorite. A very beautiful red with some orange. Really hot looking!

A lovely yellow and beige ruffled lilly.

The sun setting thru the trees on the West side of the front yard. The end of a truly magical day.

I hope that everyone is keeping as cool as possible. Please take care of yourself in the terrible heat. I want everyone to stay well. Have a wonderful weekend.

Dear Doris,
I'm Eema's forever mom, Dolly. Lauren emailed me and shared that Eema had a very special spot in your heart. I can understand that. Last June I lost my beloved Puggy who was 12 years young to lymphomia. Thinking I would NEVER find another one that I could possibly love as much, I resisted the thought of getting another Pug. Last Sept I was at an event & just fell in love with Eema (& Cher, too). They honestly rescued me. It breaks my heart to speculate on what her life was like before she came to OPR, but you would never ever know it. She happily greets each day and trots around after me. She is such a sweetheart with a calm spirit. It's not the future I'd hoped for, but we're taking it a day at a time for as long as she is comfortable and enjoying life. Many thanks for your generous donation to OPR. You are a special lady. Dolly, Eema, & Cher

Hi Doris, I'm so pleased to read your blog. I haven't posted very often lately because of being too busy and tired but I read everyone's blog and when time allows I try to comment. It's so time consuming.

Your lilies ate spectacular. I too have a Chicago Apache daylilly in my garden. I have several red and couldn't remember which one was the Chicago Apache. Now I hope that I'll be able to identify it.

It is quite impressive to have four generations at the movie. You should have been in the newspaper.

I hope that you and Eloise are not too affected by this last heat wave.

It was so nice to finally see you on Joanne's blog pictures from Grant Street. It must be so much fun getting together.

Have a safe week and stay cool. JB

The lily border is spectacular! I just love Harry Potter. Though I've not seen the new movie. I wait until they come out on TV. I do reread them every couple of years!

Never followed Harry Potter, but glad you were able to see it with all your family. Nice treat!
Amazing how there is still color among the flowers in all this heat. I'm struggling to keep my little annuals alive. Very pretty pictures. Thanks for sharing and stay cool!

That lily border is amazing. What a treat for you to be able to look out at someting so beautiful each day.
I agree the Harry Potter series is ageless. What fun to have 4 generations enjoying it together. I have read all the books and seen some of the movies. I think I'm about due to re-read the books again.
Stay cool and hugs to Eloise.

The lilies are so beautiful! What a joy to behold! Did you have to water them to keep them so nice?
I've only read the first Haarry Potter book and haven't seen the movies. I'm so glad you were able to see and enjoy the movie with your family. It is pretty amazing there weren't more kids in the theater.
Take care and try to stay cool!

This is a test to see if Joanne's suggestion works
